When to use the WIB
The WIB is absolutely perfect for those rides that take place
under changing temperature conditions. For example an early
morning ride that ends in the mid-day sun. Or an afternoon
ride that ends at dusk when the temperature can suddenly drop.
The WIB also works very well for those rides in the mid-40's
to high 50's that are not quite warm enough for just a jersey
but just too warm for a full vest. Wearing just a jersey can
cause catching a chill with known unpleasant consequences
while wearing a full jersey usually causes over-heating and
the inevitable placement of the vest in the jersey pocket.
Another possible use condition for the WIB, although not
its primary one, is that of using the WIB as an additional
layer to protect what really counts while riding in very cold
temperatures. Previously tested under these conditions in
the harshness of the the New York state winter, the WIB proved
to be effective in keeping the covered areas warmer than the
uncovered areas just by blocking the impact of the wind chill.
Last but not least, there is the "I want to look good"
reason to wear the WIB. Because it is worn under the jersey,
it allows the rider to show off the typically beautiful colors
and designs of bicycling jerseys. Showing off a bit never
hurt anyone!
How to wear the WIB
The WIB is purposely designed to be very small in size. The
intention is to just cover the neck and the upper torso, the
areas that are most impacted by the wind chill. The best way
to use the WIB is to place it between an undershirt and the
outer jersey. The athletic mesh on the inside of the WIB also
gives the possibility of wearing the WIB directly against
the skin, just under the jersey.
Simply wrap the collar around your neck and attach it with
the Velcro. If your neck size is on the large side, use the
Velcro extension provided with each WIB to allow for a comfortable
fit.
If you wear a bib with straps, it is convenient to tuck the
edges of the WIB under the straps so that it is well retained
during the ride. Or, if you wear a strapless bib, put on your
jersey over the WIB and tuck the WIB in as you zip up the
jersey.
Why it works so well
The WIB's task is to block the wind and allow perspiration
to evaporate. To achieve these two performance objectives
the WIB is composed of two separate layers.
The outer layer is made of Nylon Supplex, a material that
is inherently wind blocking and very light by feel. This fabric
is also inherently breathable, not waterproof (this would
keep the moisture in). Its task is to provide a blocking layer
so that the rider's chest does not feel the wind chill while,
at the same time, to allow the perspiration on the rider's
chest to evaporate .
The inner layer is a nylon athletic mesh that creates an
air gap between the rider's skin or undershirt and the outer
layer so that perspiration has an additional opportunity to
evaporate.
The WIB's development in terms of its material, construction
and size took place over years of research and field testing
under various weather conditions. We believe that we have
developed the best possible combination of features that achieve
so much in a remarkably small package.
Safety notes
The WIB is obviously quite a safe accessory to use. On the
other hand, please follow the folowing safety tips to make
sure that possible unsafe conditions are avoided.
SAFETY TIP #1: Make sure to attach the collar so that it
fits loosely around the neck. Putting it on too tight could
cause problems. Assure that you can loosely fit two fingers
inside the collar after it is installed.
SAFETY TIP #2: Although possibly tempted to do so, NEVER
remove the WIB while riding your bike. Make sure to stop first!
ENJOY YOUR WIB!
